Why did Launceston Council have to hold a Public Meeting under these circumstances? Did anyone think about the risks involved?
"Information for Invermay as at 1430hrs 7 June 2016
Expected peak time for the river - OVERNIGHT 7/6/16 into the early hours of 8/6/16 at which time it may be too late to evacuate.
Water levels expected to back up in the North Esk due to the influx of water from the South Esk.
Information is being given to prepare for evacuation today via door knock, letter drop or operation of the siren if urgent.
1PM - Emergency Alert via txt encouraging people to leave Invermay.
2nd to be sent once flood gates are closed.
ABC 91.7 - hourly updates starting at 1220hrs
Flood gates are in place with the exception of Charles Street.
CHARLES STREET FLOOD GATE will be installed later tonight (1900hrs) 7/6/16
Only access to Northern Suburbs will be via Invermay Road.

ENDNOTE: On this information/evidence it was reasonable to expect Launceston Council to abandon its plans for a Public Meeting and to postpone it to a safer time.
