THE AFFORDABILITY OF GOVERNMENT RATES AND CHARGES

Tasmanians are facing a cost of living affordability crisis. For many it is already upon them and the promise is only for more of the same.

Taxpayers and ratepayers are increasingly being set upon by the bureaucracies in Tasmania masquerading as 'service providers' and sadly aided and abetted by the people's 'elected representatives.' Basically, productive people are being bled by 'government' at all levels who devise projects and programs to keep them employed and well superannuated beyond retirement. If any are actually productive the TRA would like to hear about them.

Salt is rubbed into the wounds when taxpayers and ratepayers attempt to represent themselves and they are treated with scant regard.

A great many elected representatives, and their civic functionaries, are oblivious to the plight of their constituencies as demonstrated by this correspondence thread. Its is never so clear as when it is a fixed income pensioner who is involved!

What a callous Treasurer we have in Michael Aird !
This is a real letter from a pair of retired, hard-working folk who write to their Premier in a very personal way, and months later receive an unsympathetic reply from the State Treasurer!
No, Mr Aird, your reply is completely unsatisfactory. To talk almost in the third person about the neglect of capital spending on services infrastructure in this State is unnacceptable. You are at fault. You need to do something about this situation, and without any further delay. There are many folk in similar position to Max & Barbara, and you should be ashamed to wear the badge of a Labor man.
Retired people are entitled to hold their heads high and be proud.
You don't deserve a pension or publicly-funded superannuation scheme. I doubt if you have ever known what its like to be poor, to not have enough to eat, to sit with a threadbare rug over your arthritic knees because you are cold but too poor to turn on the heating.
Are you too ashamed to invite people around for a cuppa because your house is too cold?
Do you worry how you are going to feed your companion pets?
Have you stopped driving because you can no longer afford fuel and registration?
Are you reduced to giving your cherished granddaughter a cheap card for her birthday because a little dollie is now out of the question?
When is the last time you bought a pair of shoes?, had a proper holiday? Ate red meat and 3 vegetables? Hired a taxi? Went to the movies? Had a $5 flutter at the greyhounds?
Do you have living parents ?
Do you give your spare time to charitible activities?
Do you spend your cash on medications just to live and breath?
Dr Bleaney says the scum at St Helens is toxic.
Methinks there is toxic scum alive and well in the Treasury building too!!
