Dysfunctional councils warned as minister launches probe into Huon Valley infighting
The Local Government Minister is warning that the Tasmanian Government will not hesitate to intervene in dysfunctional councils, after launching an inquiry into infighting at the Huon Valley Council.
The Government has appointed a board of inquiry to investigate complaints, including allegations of bullying and harassment, at the council in Tasmania's south.
Local Government Minister Peter Gutwein said he will do the same again if necessary.
"Any council where the Government believes that there is a chance that that council could become dysfunctional, that it may not be able to serve the best interests of ratepayers then the Government will act," he said.
