Letter to Ratepayers: Grand Chancellor Forum

Hello all,

I was at last night’s forum at the Grand Chancellor to be informed and I was looking forward to the questions and answer session. Just as the responses to my correspondence recently has been strategically phrased to keep me in the dark the Mayor’s early withdrawal from the forum last night was disappointing and strategically timed to avoid being exposed to his constituency.

If this is an exemplar of what is regarded as “accountability” I’m sorry to say that it just does not cut it. Indeed, it poses a whole raft of new questions that presumably the least favourable constructions and imaginings are ever likely to be assumed. The tactic was, and is, totally counterproductive in the end!

So much for accountability! So much for effective governance, governance mindful of Council’s constituency’s aspirations and needs. No wonder Council seems to condone, as it has with me personally, threatening and unconscionable behaviours. Little wonder either that LCC consistently ducks its accountability despite all of Council’s pretty words and rhetoric enshrined in its organisational values and community engagement policy. Not good enough, not nearly good enough!
